Lyndon B Johnson Telephone Tapes
Volume 89
1968-09
Tapes: 46 - Time: 5 hours 33 minutes

This CD contains the telephone conversations for the first two months Johnson was in office. More importantly it is a recorded history of the actions Johnson took to settle into being President of the United States after assumming the office upon Kennedy's death. Recordings include conversations with Jacqueline Kennedy, those associated with setting up the Warren Commission, and how quickly Johnson started campaigning for bills in Congress. This CD and that of the tapes for Air Force One demonstrate how quickly the transfer of power can take place.

The tapes are identifed by a "PNO" number. Tape 01-04 is identifed by the PNO number 4. Corresponding dates can be located by visiting http://www.lbjlib.utexas.edu/johnson/search/Telephone_Conversations/conversations.html Use K6311 in the search bar to obtain the documentation for any of the telephone conversations for the month of November, 1963. Change the "K" number accordingly to obtain the record for any year or month for other telephone convesations. These records contain the time and date for each call plus subject matter.

Telephone conversatons 01-01 through 01-24 are very poor in sound quality. This was the first IBM recording belt used. It is guessed that once the belt was used up and then checked, the sound was found unaccetable. Adjustments were made and the sound quality was greatly improved.

Thousands of telephone calls were recorded during Johnsons term and they will be forthcoming at a later date.
